The choir sings at Helligaandskirken

The Copenhagen Girls’ Choir has now existed for 35 years. The choir was founded in 1973 when girls were admitted to the school. Birthe Højby Nielsen and Benthe Ettrup, along with Erling Pedersen and Michael Bojesen, laid the ground work for the choir, and soon the girls were very active performing at concerts, both sacred and vernacular, and making appearances on radio and TV. In 1979 the choir made its first international concert tour.

Choir tours
The choir tours frequently. Besides its concert activities in Denmark, it has toured the Scandinavian countries and most other European countries in addition to Israel, USA, Canada, Greenland and South Africa. One of the purposes of the toursis to spread the knowledge of the Danish choral tradition. (Read more about the choir tours).

Helligaandskirken (The church of the Holy Spirit)
In 1980 the choir struck an agreement with Helligaandskirken, one of the main churches of Copenhagen, by which the choir would sing at the High Mass and frequently hold concerts at the church, including an annual Christmas concert. The agreement continues to this day and in 2005 the church and the choir celebrated the 25th anniversary of the cooperation with an festive mass.

LuciaLucia
The Copenhagen Girls’ Choir has adapted a beautiful Swedish custom: the Lucia procession, which commemorates the saint by that name. The girls do the Lucia procession at residential homes for elderly people, at businesses, at churches and at the City Hall.
