CHAMBER CHOIR The Copenhagen Girls' Choir was a delight.
Impeccable timing and clarity of sound matched by dynamic control and a
real sense of enjoyment: the audience could not have asked for more.
The girls, under the wonderfully understated guidance of their leader,
offered a fine mix of secular, popular, folk, Danish, English and
religious music, from West Side Story to Rutter, from I skovens dybe,
stille ro to Until I reach-a ma Home. A burst from the Chamber Choir in
the middle of the concert offered the hand of musical hospitality which
all the young singers fully embraced after the concert in a
delightfully integrated supper. Music may be the international
language - but thankfully the Danish choristers also happened to speak
excellent English. A great event, once again highlighting the
enthusiasm Woodbridge has for the entente cordiale. Michael Streat, Deputy Headmaster, Woodbridge School.

About this picture: …We have Aldeburgh and the Benjamin Britten festivals just around the corner, but to see and hear St Mary’s, Dennington, come to life with so many young Danish choir girls is an experience I shall never forget. I was fortunate to share the experience with not only our local congregation, but with many Danes living in the area. St Mary’s Church has gone quiet again, but in my inner ear and eye I can still hear and see the girls as they performed works by Benjamin Britten – Missa Brevis – Michael McGlynn – Pie Jesu - and Johannes Brahms, the girls’ voices are exquisite…
Many thanks to the 21 choir girls from Copenhagen and their 5 leaders for having made the journey across the North Sea.
Lisbeth Ehlers Honorary secretary of the Anglo-Danish Society

Hello,
I saw the Sankt Annae Girls' Choir perform in Kings
School, Tynemouth, on Monday night, and I am writing
to say how much I enjoyed it. I have never heard any
choir sing as beautifully as your choir did on Monday,
and it is a performance I won't ever forget. I
especially appreciated the modern pieces you have had
written for the choir (Bojesens 'Herre, forbarm dig',
and Lorentzens 'Exsultate Deo') They were brilliantly
written, and to hear them performed so well was
thrilling, and inspirational to me as a composer. Also the arrangement of 'Oh, Danny Boy' was exquisite
- I was moved to tears by the tender rendition of the
Irish folk song.
Thank you so much for the effort you put into training
the choir - they are unique and Denmark should be
proud of them. Thank you also for touring England
this year so that we have been able to experience the
beautiful singing of the Sankt Annae Girls' Choir.
Yours faithfully,
Thomas Oates |
